A device of gold color metal and enamel 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a stylized red combination wrench placed vertically with open end up, the lower end between a pair of black wings displayed and enclosed on the sides by two gold lightning flashes conjoined in base to form a V; issuant from the upper edges of the wings two gold arrowheads, all enclosed above by a red arched scroll bearing in gold letters the words SUPPORT SERVICE and crossing below the wrench a continuation of the scroll bearing the word VALOR.
The lightning flashes forming a V-shape refer to the units activation in Vietnam and the scarlet scroll alludes to the award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation for the Groups service there. The units mission of aircraft maintenance is suggested by the wings and wrench while the arrowheads and flashes refer to supply and servicing of armaments and electronics systems. The upright wrench in center further alludes to the unique mission of the 34th in that it is the first and only United States Army unit to provide aircraft maintenance and supply support to the United States and other Free World Military Assistance Forces within the Republic of Vietnam.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 34th General Support Group on 2 July 1969. It was redesignated for the 34th Support Group on 3 April 1984.
